Leinster wary of roaring Lions

Leinster assistant coach Tyler Bleyendaal has warned his side about the threat posed by the in-form Lions ahead of Saturday’s Vodacom URC clash at the Aviva Stadium. betsport.cv

The Lions head to Dublin on a six-match winning run that has lifted them to third on the standings, level on points with fourth-placed Leinster.

“They are extremely cohesive at the moment and playing with a lot of confidence,” Bleyendaal said. “Every point matters at the top of the table.”

Leinster are aiming for silverware in the URC and are through to the final of the Investec Champions Cup against Bordeaux Bègles later this month.

Ireland prop Andrew Porter returned from injury to play a starring role in Leinster’s semi-final win over Toulon, earning Man of the Match honours.

“It’s incredibly special for me to be back after a bit of injuries,” Porter said. “We are going from strength to strength. It’s incredibly exciting what we are doing.”

While fellow prop Tadhg Furlong and wing James Lowe are also back in training, centre Robbie Henshaw will miss the Lions clash.

Henshaw was stretchered off early in the match against Toulon following a heavy collision and is undergoing return-to-play protocols.

Orlando Pirates’ THREE fixtures between them and title glory

Orlando Pirates can claim a first league title in 14 years if they take care of business and a few other permutations fall in place.

Three fixtures for Orlando Pirates to secure the title

After a 1-1 draw between Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns on Wednesday, Pirates have the initiative again in a topsy-turvy title race. They trail the Brazilians by three points. However, they have a game in hand and a superior goal difference. Here’s what they still need to negotiate:

  • Saturday, 9 May vs Magesi FC, Seshego Stadium – 20:00
  • Saturday, 16 May vs Durban City, Orlando Stadium – 15:00
  • Saturday, 23 May vs Orbit College, Royal Bafokeng Stadium – 15:00

How will things pan out?

After a 1-1 draw between Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns, Pirates know that convincing wins in their three remaining fixtures will likely secure the title. They trail Sundowns by three points, with a game in hand, but have a favourable goal difference of +41; Sundowns’ sits at +34. Sundowns kick off first on Saturday against Siwelele, so Pirates could trail them by six points when their match with Magesi kicks off that evening. It’s going to the wire in 2025-26. If the Sea Robbers win their three matches, that will likely be adequate to secure the title. That is, unless Sundowns win their remaining fixtures against Siwelele and TS Galaxy by massive scorelines to close the goal difference gap.

Dynamos maintain unbeaten run after Kansanshi stalemate

Zambia Super League champions Power Dynamos maintained their unbeaten run after a 0-0 draw against Kansanshi Dynamos in a tightly contested rescheduled Week 25 fixture in Solwezi on Wednesday.

Kansanshi started strongly and looked to unsettle the visitors early, but Power’s defence remained organised and cleared the early danger. Kenya striker Moses Shumah returned to Dynamos squad after missing previous two matches owing to illness.

Dynamos gradually grew into the match, with Ronel Manyanga creating several promising moments, including a dangerous free kick and a chance for Innocent Kashita.

Mwanza saved Dynamos in early stages

Kansanshi threatened through Kalonji Mwepu, who tested goalkeeper Willard Mwanza and came close with an effort that hit the side netting.

Both teams continued to push for a breakthrough, but strong defending and missed chances meant the match remained goalless at halftime.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides staying compact despite substitutions, and the match ended 0-0 as defensive discipline outweighed attacking precision.

The result kept Dynamos focused as they turn their attention to the upcoming ABSA Cup final, which will be played on May 10.

Dynamos, who has already wrapped up the title, moved to 71 points at the summit amassed from 21 wins, eight draws, and two defeats. The game saw Kansanshi give Dynamos a wrap of honour.
